The town where Mani's parents (Carmen and Pimpo) are from is actually a town called Cuntis http://goo.gl/maps/qNY3O which is right next to Moraña in the Galicia region, and Pontevedra provence. Santiago de Compostela is the closest airport to Cuntis, it is approximately a 30 minute drive.
Air Travel
Flying from Australia or further overseas
If you are flying from Australia or outside the UK then flying to Madrid and then on to Santiago de Compostela is a good option. A number of airlines fly to Madrid via the Middle East or South East Asia and then the internal flight to Santiago is cheaper (than say flying to the UK then onwards).
www.skyscanner.net compares flights from all over the world so it is a great website for looking up flights. From Australia, http://www.bestflights.com.au/ cheap-flights/earlybird-deals has some great deals for early bird bookings still available and Flight Centre has a sale on the 9th & 10th February.
Europe
If you are flying from the UK, Ryan Air http://www.ryanair.com/en flies from Stanstead Airport (North East London); and Easy Jet http://www.easyjet.com/en flies from Gatwick Airport (South West London). As these are considered 'cheap' airlines, you will need to pay extra for checking in baggage. Please sense check the booking for additional costs before actually booking the flight, things like checking in online can save you some cash.
Alternatively, Vueling Airlines http://www.vueling.com flies from Heathrow (West of London) to La Coruña or to Vigo which are both about an hour's drive to Cuntis.
www.skyscanner.net again is a great site for comparing prices between airlines, also www.lastminute.com has some good deals.
Car Hire
Although we can arrange pick ups from Santiago de Compostela airport (please let us know flight times/dates) if you are interested in driving around the area (great countryside, lovely beaches and lots to see!) it might be best to hire a car. We will also arrange transport from Cuntis (or the surrounding areas if required) to the wedding venue for all guests so please keep that in mind.
There are a number of car hire places to choose from including the regular Avis, Budget, Hertz, Europcar as well as localised car hire options. If you are interested in sharing car hire with other guests let us know and we can put you in touch so you can share costs. http://www.rentalcars. com/en/airport/es/scq
Tourism
Galicia is not really a big tourist region like the south east coast of Spain for example. For this reason you will get a unique view of life in this Celtic region of Spain plus you will get to sample the free tapas that goes with the obligatory glass of wine. Something you don't get in many other regions of Spain! Pontevedra is well known for its Albariño (white/blanco) wine and Rioja (red/tinto), wines are also quite popular in the region. Seafood in Galicia is the best in Spain and you will be able to sample some of it at the wedding, as well as in the many bars and restaurants in the local area. For more information on tourism, try these sites:
So hopefully that is enough to whet your appetite for now, we will post some more information soon, but please do let us know if you have any questions or need assistance with logistics. Remember that we've traveled many times back and forth from Aus/Spain/UK so please let us know if you need help!
